Weekly Newsletter Quarter 1 Week 3 8/26 - 8/30

 Spalding: This week in Spalding we are beginning our words list and studying phonograms.

Grammar/Writing: In grammar and writing, we are continuing to practice writing sentences accurately and review the four types of sentences. 

History: This week in history, we will continue our journey through Ancient India with stories like "A Jataka Tale," and "King Asoka."

Science: In science, we will start exploring land and water. We will be looking at different places around America like Mount Rushmore and other land marks. Students will be able to make observations of land and water.

Math: This week in math, scholars will be finishing Chapter 1 with number patterns and a test on Thursday. Friday we will begin Chapter 2 which includes addition within 1000.

Literature: In literature this week, we are continuing our classic to keep, The Boxcar Children. Scholars will also get to act out a chapter!

We are continuing our poem The Year, by Sara Coleridge.

Reminders and Updates

If your scholar is Upper school carline pick up in the afternoon, please make sure they have book to read in the MPR.

Starting next week your scholars will be able to check out library books!

Please practice our poem at home! We are reciting The Year on September 12th in class.

Weekly Newsletter Quarter 1 Week 2 8/19 - 8/23

Spalding: This week in Spalding we are beginning with proper hand/paper placement and reviewing how to properly write our manuscript letters.

Grammar/Writing: In grammar, we will be reviewing capitalization. 

In writing scholars will be learning to narrate a story using rich details and copy a sentence correctly.

History: This week we will continue our study of Ancient India and the civilization that was developed during that time.

Science: In science, we will look closely at the scientist, Jane Goodall, and why she is important.

Math: This week in math, scholars will practice number patterns, number lines, and counting money.

Literature: In literature this week, we are beginning our first classic to keep, The Boxcar Children. We will also continue to review our saying, "Back to the drawing board."

We are continuing our poem The Year, by Sara Coleridge.

Reminders: Please practice our poem at home! We are reciting The Year on September 12th

Weekly Newsletter Quarter 1 Week 1 8/14 - 8/17

                                                           Welcome 2nd Grade Parents!


Spalding: This week in Spalding we will begin with proper hand/paper placement and reviewing how to properly write our manuscript letters.

Grammar/Writing: Students will be making goals for themselves for the upcoming school year and write about who they are.

History: We will set up expectations of our history journal and start exploring ancient India.

Science: We are introducing expectations, looking at what scientists do, and the importance of studying science.

Math: Scholars will understand that the three digits of a three digit number represents amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones. (For example: 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 one. Scholars will also practice writing numbers in word form this week.)

Literature: In literature this week, we are starting off with the folktales such as: The Fisherman and his Wife, How the Camel got his Hump, and El Parjaro Cu. We will introduce our first saying, " Back to the drawing board." 

We are also introducing our poem The Year, by Sara Coleridge.
