Weekly Newsletter Quarter 4 Week 2 3/24-3/28

 Spalding: This week in Spalding we are writing 30 words (all cursive) and studying phonograms! 

Grammar/WritingThis week in grammar we are learning about quotation marks and in writing we are writing a paragraph independently.

History: We will continue how early Americans traveled and settled west. 

Science: We will continue learning about the different cycles of the earth. This week we will focus on what makes the seasons and the life cycle of a plant.

MathThis week the scholars are continuing to learn about shapes, reviewing shapes on Tuesday and testing on Wednesday. We will then introduce our next chapter about fractions.

LiteratureThis week we are continuing our classic, Charlotte's Web.

Poetry/ Saying: This week we are continuing our poem, "The Hayloft" by Robert Louis Stevenson. We are planning to recite April 9th/10th.  Please have your scholar practice at home!

We are continuing our saying: "Practice what you preach."

Weekly Newsletter Quarter 4 Week 1 3/17-3/21

 Spalding: This week in Spalding we are writing 29 words (all cursive) and studying phonograms! 

Grammar/WritingThis week in grammar we are learning about quotation marks and in writing we are writing a paragraph independently.

History: We will be continuing our journey west, as we learn about the American settlers travel west. 

Science: We will begin looking at different cycles in nature. The first cycle we will look at is day and night, and seasons. 

Math: This week scholars are continuing to learn more about shapes with more emphasis on 3-D shapes. We will be utilizing both our Singapore and Envision books for extra practice.

Literature: This week we are beginning our next classic, Charlotte's Web.

Poetry/ Saying:  This week we are introducing "The Hayloft" by Robert Louis Stevenson. We are planning to recite April 9th/10th.  Please have your scholar practice at home!

Weekly Newsletter Quarter 3 Week 8 03/03-03/07

 Spalding: This week in Spalding we are writing 10 words (9 cursive) and studying phonograms! 

Grammar/Writing: This week in grammar, they are learning about possessive nouns. In Writing, they will write a paragraph about spring break and their field trip. 

History: We will be continuing our study on how the Americans moved west.  

Science: We will continue to study the human body and how it works.  

Math: This week scholars are beginning our next chapter with Shapes. We will open with learning 2-D and 3-D shapes and complete a fun pizza shape activity before our Field Trip Thursday and Spring Break. 

Literature: This week in Literature we are continuing our classic, The Borrowers, by Mary Norton. 

Poetry/ Saying:  This week in Poetry we are practicing and reciting our poem, "Harriet Tubman," by Eloise Greenfield. We are planning to recite March 4th/5th.  Please have your scholar practice at home!

We are continuing our saying, "In hot water."

Weekly Newsletter Quarter 3 Week 7 02/24-02/28

Spalding: This week in Spalding we are writing 29 words (21 cursive) and studying phonograms! 

Grammar/Writing: This week in grammar, they are learning about homonyms. In Writing, they will be composing introduction sentences in a paragraph. 

History: We will be completing the study of the War of 1812 with our Quiz on Tuesday February 25th and start the study on how the Americans moved west.  

Science: We will continue to study the human body and how it works and how we can keep it healthy. 

Math: This week scholars are continuing with Data lessons with bar graphs and line plots. We will review on Thursday and test on data Friday. 

Literature: This week in Literature we are continuing our classic, The Borrowers, by Mary Norton. 

Poetry/ Saying:  This week in Poetry we are continuing our poem, "Harriet Tubman," by Eloise Greenfield. We are planning to recite March 4th/5th.

Weekly Newsletter Quarter 3 Week 6 2/17-2/21

 Spalding: This week in Spalding we are writing 17 words (9 cursive) and studying phonograms! 

Grammar/Writing: This week in grammar, they are learning about antonyms and synonyms. In Writing, they will be writing conclusion sentences in a paragraph. 

History: We will be completing the study of the War of 1812. Students will have a quiz on Thursday, please study flash cards.  

Science: We will begin studying the human body and how it works and how we can keep it healthy. 

Math: This week scholars are reviewing and testing on multiplication Wednesday. We will then begin our next chapter on Data with bar and picture graphs. 

Literature: This week in Literature we are continuing our classic, The Borrowers, by Mary Norton.

Weekly Newsletter Quarter 3 Week 5 2/10-2/14

Spalding: This week in Spalding we are writing 28 words (6 cursive) and studying phonograms! 

Grammar/Writing: This week in grammar, they are learning about synonyms, In Writing, they will be labelling mixed body sentences in a paragraph. 

History: We will continue the study of the War of 1812. 

Science: We will be finishing up our study of electricity and magnetism. 

Math: This week scholars are continuing multiplication with skip counting, addition and creating stories to help solve multiplication problems. We will be using both the Singapore and Envision books this week. 

Literature: This week in Literature we are continuing our classic, The Borrowers, by Mary Norton. 

Poetry/ Saying:  This week in Poetry we are introducing our next poem, "Harriet Tubman," by Eloise Greenfield. We are planning to recite March 4th/5th.

Weekly Newsletter Quarter 3 Week 4 02/03 - 02/07

Spalding: This week in Spalding we are beginning to learn cursive! We will begin with connecting strokes and then slowly learn the formation of cursive letters. 

Grammar/Writing: This week in grammar, they are learning about contractions. In Writing, they will be labelling second body sentences in a paragraph. 

History: We will complete our study of the constitution and start studying the War of 1812.

Science: We will be finishing up our study of electricity and magnetism. 

Math: This week scholars will be reviewing and testing their knowledge on length. Test this Tuesday. Then we will begin our next unit, multiplication. Starting with basic counting of groups and learning what an even and odd number is. 

Literature: This week we are starting our newest book, The Borrowers, by Mary Norton. 

This week we are continuing: "Bed in Summer" by Robert Louis Stevenson. 

Poetry/ Saying:  This week on Wednesday and Thursday we are reciting "Bed in Summer". Please make sure your scholar is prepared to recite this week.  February 5th-6th. 

We are learning about our saying, "Taste of your own medicine."
